What "widest spread" tells you
Spread is the gap between the best BUY price (lowest, what you'd pay) and the best SELL price (highest, what you'd receive) on a given exchange. A 0.3% spread means you can round-trip INR → USDT → INR for ~0.3% loss. A 6% spread means you lose 6% round-trip. For one-way trades, the spread is what the merchant pool collectively charges— it's the fee built into the rate.
The exchanges at the top of this table are the ones you should avoid for one-way conversions if a tighter alternative exists for your payment rail. Dedicated P2P apps trade off rate quality for UX simplicity — they handle escrow + dispute resolution + the merchant book themselves, in exchange for a built-in 6%+ markup. - Pick from the bottom of the table, not the top. The bottom (tightest spread) is where your conversion is cheapest.
- Match payment rail. UPI for INR on Binance/ Bybit/OKX is the deepest book. If you only have a non-instant rail (NEFT, Wire), spreads widen accordingly.
