How the numbers are computed

Best Buy / Best Sell: Lowest BUY price (cheapest USDT to buy) and highest SELL price (most INR for selling) across the full ad book in the last 5 minutes. Exchange + merchant attribution shown when known.
Spread: (Best Sell − Best Buy) / Best Buy × 100. Positive = arbitrage window. Watch for spreads above 0.5% — that's where it starts to be worth executing.
24h transactions: Estimated as the sum of (each active merchant's monthly_orders ÷ 30). Approximate — it weights merchants who advertised in the last 24h, regardless of whether they closed any trades today.
24h volume: Daily-tx estimate × geometric-mean trade size from each ad's (min, max) range. Trade sizes are log-normal in P2P, so the geometric mean tracks the median trade better than an arithmetic mean would.
Liquidity: Sum of available_crypto across every live ad in the last 5 minutes — i.e., the total USDT a buyer could fill against right now if every merchant honored their post.
Completion rate: Reported by the exchange per merchant; expressed as % of orders successfully completed. Below ~95% is a yellow flag.

Caveat: Prices are informational. Off-platform settlement (UPI, IMPS, bank transfer) carries counterparty risk that no aggregator can model. Always verify the merchant's badge, completion rate, and ratings on the source exchange before committing.

Direct-crawled exchanges (Binance, Bybit, OKX, HTX, KuCoin) refresh every 60 seconds against each exchange's public P2P API. Reference exchanges (Bitget, MEXC, Gate, BingX) refresh every 30 minutes via p2p.army's daily aggregate. Every number on the page is timestamped; live ad observations drive the sitemap's lastmod.

Is the API really free?+

Yes. All /api/v1/ endpoints (rates, exchanges, payments, best, spreads, convert) are public, no key required, no rate limits, and licensed CC BY 4.0 — meaning ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and any developer can ingest and cite the data with attribution. The license signal is in the schema metadata, robots.txt explicitly allows AI crawlers on /api/v1/.

How is OpenRate different from CoinMarketCap or CoinGecko?+

CMC and CoinGecko show centralized-exchange spot prices (Binance USDT/USD, etc.). OpenRate shows P2P market prices — the actual peer-to-peer rate at which retail buyers and sellers are trading USDT for INR/RUB/PKR/etc. via UPI, JazzCash, SBP, Pix and other local rails. The P2P rate often diverges 1-5% from spot, especially in capital-controlled markets.
